Treating The Neck, Bust and Decolletage – Dr Natasha Chapman

The décolletage and neck areas are extremely delicate and very prone to burning and scarring, I would recommend a treatment such as FRAXEL laser which is highly effective at improving sun spots as well as actinic bronzing and roughened texture, and has very little associated risk.  Fraxel laser works by removing microscopic columns of tissue and leaving behind a large percentage of untouched skin.  This helps to remove pigmentation and the untouched skin helps to heal these areas of microscopic injuries, improving the texture and stimulating the formation of new collagen.  Treatments such as microdermabrasion can also be very effective at improving the look and texture of the skin by removing the outermost layer of damaged cells.

Diffuse redness can be treated with laser treatments such as the V-Beam laser which targets redness and causes dilated blood vessels to constrict under the skin.

Treatments such as carboxytherapy can be useful in treating wrinkles and sagging of the neck and décolletage areas.  This treatment involves blowing small amounts of carbon dioxide gas into the damaged tissue.  The carbon dioxide displaces oxygen and one’s body recognises this as an oxygen deficit in the area.  An increased blood flow is diverted to the area, carrying with it an increase in oxygen and nutrients, which helps to stimulate new collagen production and new blood vessel formation in the area.

Fine lines and dehydrated skin can be improved by injecting small droplets of fillers such as Restylane Vital or Juvederm Hydrate under the skin.  These fillers are particularly hydrophilic, sucking in water to increase the hydration and skin quality in the area and can make a huge difference in the appearance of skin.

Wrinkles and sagging necks are probably one of the most distressing complaints from patients that I see.   Whilst surgical neck lifting is an option, I find that many women are averse to this because of the possibility of scarring and having to have a general anaesthetic.  Skin tightening devices on the market include Thermage and Ulthera . Ulthera has FDA approval for a lower face lift, neck lift and brow lift and has been recommended by Madonna’s plastic surgeon!  From the internet, this seems to be the most effective non-surgical tightening treatment available, and we are finding that all of the patients we have treated have seen an improvement after one treatment.
